Speech And Language Therapy

Speech and Language intervention is a dynamic process that follows a systematic progression. It begins with the diagnosis of a communication disorder and is followed by the selection of appropriate therapy targets. The therapy is to develop expressive vocabulary and receptive vocabulary. It concentrates on the on the linguistic concepts, sentence structure, oral directions, word structure, Syntax, syllables, articulations etc.

Training procedure is implemented to facilitate the acquisition of the target behaviors. The intervention process is completed when mastery of these behaviors is achieved. Periodic follow-up is performed to monitor retention and stability of the newly acquired behaviors. This intervention is a dynamic process rather than a static process in which the clinician continuously assesses a client's progress in relation to established goals and modifies them as necessary.

The speech and language abilities are acquired and used primarily for the purpose of communication and therefore is taught in a communicative context. It occurs in realistic situations and provides the client with opportunities to engage in meaningful communicative interactions. In the case of children with Autism, alternative method is used as a technique to develop the skills needed for communication.
